About the Head of School

Dr David Anthony Firth TD

BMed Sci MB ChB DCH MA MSc FRCPsych

 

Head of KSS School of Psychiatry is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist in the small community team at the Homoeopathic Hospital, Royal Tunbridge Wells.

He is now in his 18th year as a consultant. He is an honorary senior lecturer in KIMHS and recently took on the job of Head of KSS School of Psychiatry after a number of years as Clinical Tutor and then DME for the Kent & Medway Psychiatry Trust. 

He has recently been fortunate to have been able to complete the MA in medical education through the University of Brighton. For the past decade he has examined for the DCH and the part 2 of the MRCPsych (currently the CASC).

His medical training started in St. Andrews and then Manchester. Which was where he returned after completing house jobs in the Isle of Man.

He joined the South Manchester Psychiatry training scheme and then gained 9 months experience in paediatric neurology prior to moving to the higher (Senior Registrar) scheme in Child Psychiatry.

He took a year of out of this scheme to spend 6 months with Prof Brent Waters in Sydney Australia and then had 6 months in the British Military Hospital Hong Kong at the time of the first Gulf war.

His first Consultant post was in Booth Hall Children’s Hospital in North Manchester where he stayed for 9 years running the adolescent In Patient and Day hospital places as well as an under-funded and deprived outpatient catchment area.

He is married to another child psychiatrist, and they have two boys, his hobbies are bridge, BMW motorbikes and Bristol cars.
