Inter Deanery and Inter Programme Transfers

To ensure a consistent approach to the process of Inter Deanery Transfers (IDT) across all deaneries and specialties, applications for transfers into a Deanery will be considered by an IDT panel held in that Deanery.

If you are a GP trainee in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex GP School and wish to be considered for an Inter Deanery transfer to continue your GP training in another Deanery, you will need to complete an application form. It will be very helpful if you are able to give as much notice as possible.

  • Please note that eligibility for a transfer is determined by the criteria and trainees will have to complete 12 months in post before they can move.

In addition, even if a transfer is agreed by the Deanery where the trainee is at present, the transfer can go ahead only if the receiving Deanery has the capacity to do this.

Training vacancies in other Deaneries may not be readily available and arrangements therefore may take some time to set up.

Transfers for the final year of GP training (ST3) are usually easier to organise, as finding the appropriate combination of hospital posts for a GP trainee transferring for the ST2 year, and who has already done certain posts, can be very difficult.

To apply for a transfer, you should read the Inter Deanery Transfer Notes document on 'Movement of Specialist and Specialty Trainees (SpRs/StRs/GPStRs) between Deaneries'.

  • This is part of the Reference Guide for Postgraduate Specialty Training in the UK (The Gold Guide)

You will then need to complete the “Inter-Deanery Transfer Application Form” (GP IDT1) and will need to explain the reasons for your request. Please submit the application form together with an up-to-date CV and either your most recent Educational Supervisor Report or ARCP results. You should also include any supporting documentation (ie: medical reports, offer letters for partners, new job). Forms need to be signed by your Programme Director before being returned to the Deanery.

In the KSS GP School, request to transfer to another training location within the KSS GP School (Inter-Programme Transfer) will be dealt with in a similar way. For an Inter Programme Transfer, please complete the 'Inter Programme Transfer Application form' together with the Inter Programme Assessment Form. You will also need to include an up-to date CV and your most recent Educational Supervisor Report and your ARCP results. You should also include any supporting documentation (ie: medical reports, offer letters for partners, new job). Forms need to be signed by your Programme Director before being returned to the Deanery.

  • You should apply by Friday 20th July 2012 at 5pm.  Any applications received after this will be forwarded to the March 2013 transfer window.

If your application has been successful your documentation will be forwarded to your requested Deanery for consideration. It is your responsibility to ensure that all the documentation requested is received by the panel and that the application form is completed and signed. All forms have to be originals as faxed/scanned copies may be rejected by receiving Deaneries. KSS Deanery will return any incomplete forms and they will not be considered until the correct paperwork is complete.
