SINGLE LEAD EMPLOYER PILOT - FACT SHEET No 1 updated August 2011.pdf |
Single Lead Employer Pilot
Following the KSS Deanery GP Department consultation paper in December 2010, we are now commencing a pilot process for GP trainees in their first year of training to have a Single Employer from August 2011. The Deanery has long been aware of the challenges and difficulties for both GP trainees and their employers as they rotate through a number of different employers in their training programmes. We have responded to this and have widely consulted with GP trainees, GP Training Practice Manager, GP Trainers, Directors of Medical Education and Hospital Clinical Tutors over the last year. The proposal for the local Acute NHS Hospital Trust to act as a Single Employer was widely supported with the recognition of consequent substantial benefits for GP training in KSS, service provision in hospital and the community, and for the trainee doctors. We have also met with Directors of Human Resources in the KSS Acute NHS Trusts and the Medical Staffing Managers on a number of occasions to discuss the implications and benefits of enabling Acute Trusts to act as single employers for GP trainees in their locality GP Training Programme and together we have agreed a Service Level Agreement for managing this process during the pilot.
The following important documentation will provide more detail and can be downloaded from this web page:
Documents for Training Practices, participating in the pilot, are available from the list below:
In addition to this pilot, an exceptional pilot process is being run in East Kent to employ GPStR2 trainees in the Single Employer concept (this has been agreed under exceptional circumstances). Please note that Fact Sheet 1 was updated on 2/8/2011 to reflect this.
