Module 2
Developing Skills for Teaching Course
This 3 day module builds on the skills developed in educational planning introduced in Module 1 and introduces you to further academic principles. You will also explore the skills needed to teach in a small group setting and will be introduced to the theory of group dynamics. It also explores the literature around models of the Consultation.
There is an opportunity to continue your development as an educator by exploring how to structure, plan and deliver tutorials using a range of teaching interventions. You will also explore different theories relating to learning and the impact of differing learning and teaching styles.

Support for FY2 Community Educational Supervisors
The Foundation Programme is administered by your local Trust in association with Foundation Schools (linked to the regional medical schools). Each Trust has a Foundation Director who has overall responsibility for the programme.
Medical Education Centre Managers in your local Postgraduate Medical Centre often assist in the practical organisation of the scheme.
Programme Directors who support GP Speciality training also arrange the GP placements for FY2 doctors and are a source of help and advice
The next steps
Once you have completed the course you will need to notify your local Programme Director that you are available to undertake the role.
FY2 CES are appointed for 1 year and in any local area often several doctors come together to share the role – this gives you some experience but the role is also then more manageable. FY2 CES doctors receive financial support to the same amount as that received by a GP trainer.
In order to claim the training grant you will be required to complete a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for FY2 CES. This is needed in order to authorise payment to you. The SLA can be found in the downloads area at the bottom of this page, but will be sent to you at the beginning of your rotation.
How to apply
If you are interested in progressing to become a FY2 CES or want to become a GP trainer please contact Ekuba Edjah, GP Education Pathway Manager: eedjah@gpkss.ac.uk
