Introduction

The role of the FY2CS is one of supervision and guidance. During the Foundation programme the employing trust the FY2 doctor is working in will be arranging a programme of formal educational events which the FY2 doctor will be expected to attend.

However, working in general practice can be daunting and isolating as they are outside the hospital setting without their peers for much of the time.

To help support FY2 doctors during general practice placements in KSS we have developed a programme of GP based tutorials where they can meet other FY2 doctors working in general practice and learn together once a week.

Currently doctors wishing to become a GP trainer or those interested in developing their skills further can apply to undertake this module.

You must however have your MRCGP, and it is advisable that you have had some experience of hosting a FY2 doctor before you undertake this module.

Upon completion of the module even if your desired goal is to become a trainer you would be expected to fulfill this role as it provides you with valuable real teaching experience.

The role of the FY2 Community Educational Supervisor

  • Supports the FY2CS in the development of their skills
  • Offer individual support to FY2 CS and their practices
  • Undertake a weekly tutorial with FY2 doctors based in GP placements
