What we can do for you
We offer a range of services to trainees, supervisors and other healthcare professionals:
Career Planning Guidance Framework
Within the two South Thames Foundations Schools career planning is embedded within the foundation curriculum, with locally provided activities to introduce career-planning tools. These tools are linked into a four-stage career-planning framework:
- Stage 1: self-assessment e.g. skills, interests, values
- Stage 2: career exploration e.g. how to research different career options
- Stage 3: decision making e.g. look at how you have made decisions
- Stage 4: plan implementation e.g. application forms and interview preparation
During the two-year foundation programme this four-stage framework can be used for career planning and form the basis of discussions with local trust based educational supervisors. Further information on how the four stages can be spread over the two years is shown on this timeline.
What you choose for the next stage of your career should be a personal decision. Do please ensure that you make use of a planned approach and investigate career options fully before making that decision.

Careers Support Training workshops - this practical 1-day workshop has been designed to improve the quality of career support that is delivered to trainees.
PG Cert/Dip/MA Managing Medical Careers - The KSS Deanery runs a Postgraduate Certificate programme which has a specialist focus on managing medical careers.
Examples of the support we can provide to trainees:
In order to supplement the good work that is being carried out in the Trusts, we can offer the following:
One-to-one drop-in careers support sessions - we run 30 minute one-to-one drop-in sessions at several NHS Trusts across the region. We are running these sessions on a rolling basis as we do not have resources to visit every NHS Trust.
F1/F2 careers support workshops - we are continuing to offer to run workshops acorss the region. Examples of typical workshops are:
- F1: A framework for careers planning
- F2: Application to specialty
- F2: Interviews & Specialty Selection Centres
All of the above sessions can be arranged by the local Education Centre. Please get in contact with us at careers@kssdeanery.ac.uk if you wish to discuss further.
