Kent Surrey and Sussex Deanery Pharmacy Department

The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Deanery Pharmacy Team are a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and administrators who's ultimate goal is to develop and support pharmacy education and workforce strategy within the NHS. Below is a brief example of the work we are involved in.

  • Recruitment and marketing of pre-registration trainee pharmacist training in the NHS
  • Training and accreditation of teachers and tutors in the workplace
  • Training and accreditation of pharmacy technicians to provide medicines management and checking roles in the workplace
  • Quality managing pre-registration trainee pharmacist and pharmacy technician education
  • Developing pharmacy leaders including management skills for senior pharmacy staff, chief pharmacist networking
  • Provision and funding of QCF (NVQ) training for pharmacy technicians and assistants
  • Providing a regional programme of face to face and on line training to support pre-registration trainee pharmacists and their tutors
  • Working with national bodies to input and influence education policy in relation to pharmacy
  • Providing professional advice to the SHA on non medical prescribing and supporting NMP leads in NHS organisations (South East Coast only)
  • Co-ordinate and develop the Summer work experience scheme for pharmacy undergraduates (Hampshire only)

Our work is guided by Tomorrow's Pharmacy Workforce. This South East Coast strategy document has been produced with input of medicines management professionals from all sectors including workforce planning and education leads and colleagues from the medical and nursing professions. The Team also have close links with other education providers e.g. local Schools of Pharmacy, regional specialist networks.
