Register with the Royal College of Anaesthetics; complete the registration form for core or higher specialty training and send it to the School for the Regional Adviser signoff.
Complete your annual Form R (Form A for SpR/RITA trainees) - registration for training forms for core or higher specialty training and send it to the School for the Head of School signoff. Please see attached downloads.
CT1 and ST3 trainees will need to use the RCOA e-portfolio - use training portfolio with appendices, paperwork until you have access to this new method of recording your training.Attend and collect your CD/guide/handbook at your Induction Day, Please note: Each new CT2 and ACCs CT3 will receive all this information as well.
Book initial appraisal meeting with your Educational Supervisor to update your portfolio, to share your latest Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) outcome and/or Action Plan and/or Final Appraisal from previous Trust/Hospital. Sign your annual Educational Agreement with your Educational Supervisor.
Complete the appropriate competencies to obtain a successful outcome at your next ARCP.
The local College Tutor will work with all Educational and Clinical Tutors to assist the trainees in meeting the competencies stipulated in the curricula. Complete an Audit in CT1/2 and ST3/4 training years
- Attend your Interim Review and prepare documentation for your Annual ARCP.
- Use School website and RCOA website to keep up to date with curricula, examination dates, regional training days, ARCP dates, bulletins, special events & recruitment news
- Study and take RCOA Primary & Final FRCA Examinations during your CT1/2 and ST3/4 training years.
Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) information
During the training programme, the trainee anaesthetist takes an examination in three parts (MCQ, OSCE & SOE), called the Primary FRCA. Please note that a trainee cannot proceed to a run-through grade ST3 without the primary FRCA qualification. The Final FRCA examination also in three parts (MCQ, SAQ & SOE), is taken during the trainees’ ST3-4 year and the trainee cannot proceed to a ST5 post without this exam. These exams are set and supervised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.Please go to the Royal College of Anaesthetics FRCA Examination page for more information.
