Summary Guidance on WBAs for CT2 Trainees.pdf

Interim Reviews will be held face to face for all CT1 Trainees.CT2 trainees will be reviewed electronically on the ISCP portfolio.

The School of Surgery expects that a minimum number of the following assessment tools are carried out by the time of your interim review

WBPAs:

x 6 CBD (3 to be done with a consultant)

x 6 Mini-CEX (3 to be done with a consultant)

x 6 DOPS (CT1)  or 6 DOPS/PBAs (CT2) (2 DOPS to be done with a consultant for CT1s, 50% of DOPS to be done with a consultant if CT2) (All PBAs should be done with a consultant)

Please see important information below for more detail.

x 1 Mini-PAT for the first placement should be completed during the 4th month

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

CT2:

Trainees in CT2 should move on to doing PBAs if they have already completed a good number of DOPS on a variety of procedures/topics in CT1. However PBAs are only regarded as valid if done with a consultant. You can still do DOPS in CT2 training as well if you wish to but half of them must be done with a consultant. The minimum guidance number for CT2s takes the number of DOPS/PBAs you have done combined, i.e you could have 4 DOPS (2 consultant) and 2 PBAs to meet the minimum total of 6 DOPS/PBAs by Interim Review.

ALL TRAINEES:

Please download the Summary Guidance for WBA's under the download section of the website on the right hand side of the page for your relevant year of training. This shows the minimum numbers required by Interim Review and also by ARCP time.

Your interim review is a formal face-to-face interview where a panel including at least one of the Core Programme Directors will review all the evidence in your portfolio.

If you do not have good evidence of competencies, including the minimum numbers of assessments, the School will investigate the situation with your local surgical faculty.

In building your portfolio, it is vital to make every effort to use the assessments routinely and add a substantial number of them on a regular and ongoing basis.
