KSS Deanery Credit Scheme

All Core Trainees will eventually apply for Higher Surgical Training posts, and competition will be intense.

Not all surgical Specialties have the same number of opportunities for Higher Surgical Training. (Plastics/ENT/Urology fewer; T&O and General Surgery a greater number).

In order to allow Trainees to plan Careers appropriately a 'Ranking Scheme' has been adopted. This is very similar in nature to the ST3 Application Forms that you will all have to fill in for HST applications.

At the time of your ARCP you will be sent a questionnaire and a preference sheet to fill in. From this information you will all be ranked against your peers. The information will be checked and discrepancy may mean disqualification.  You can find the Credit Scheme in the download section of the website.  This may be subject to change.

The highest scoring CT1 Trainees will be able to choose their next posts. Everyone will have a CT2 Post – but your choice of specialty rotation will depend upon your ranking.

The highest CT2 Trainees will be able to choose a CT2+ post of their choice (subject to availability and PMETB approval). There will NOT be sufficient CT2+ posts for all CT2 Trainees.
